WASHINGTON, D.C. —  Following reports that Senate Democrats under the leadership of Senator Majority Leader Schumer have agreed to abandon efforts to confirm four essential court of appeals nominees, People For the American Way President Svante Myrick released the following statement:

“Abandoning efforts to confirm pending Circuit Court nominees is unacceptable. It betrays the mission of filling our federal courts with exceptionally qualified and fair-minded judges committed to equal justice for all. The four nominees that are being discarded by this reported deal include Adeel Mangi, for the Third Circuit Court of Appeal; Sixth Circuit nominee Karla Campbell; Fourth Circuit nominee Ryan Park; and First Circuit nominee Julia Lipez. Each of these nominees will protect people’s fundamental rights – exactly the opposite of Trump’s present and future judges. And as appeals court judges, they would have significantly more impact on justice for all, compared with trial court judges. Until the end of the year, Democrats have a responsibility to the American people to advance President Joe Biden’s judicial nominees and set the tone for the fights that will be necessary ahead.”
