Washington DC – In response to Senator Shaheen’s (D-NH) reintroduction of the Democracy for All constitutional amendment that would roll back the disastrous Citizens United decision, People For President Svante Myrick released the following statement:
“Citizens United destroyed our nation’s safeguards against corporation- and billionaire-funded super PACs having undue influence over our elections. For the last 15 years, dark money has flowed freely and given those with the biggest wallet the biggest say. This deeply unpopular decision played a key role in the 2024 election that gave us Donald Trump. It’s time to end this failed experiment of dark money in politics.
“The Democracy for All amendment would restore the authority of Congress and the states to set reasonable limits on how candidates can raise and spend money in elections and prohibit corporations from affecting elections simply by outspending the people. We’ve been outspoken about the dangers of Citizens United and similar decisions since they were made, and we’re proud to support the Democracy for All amendment because it is our best opportunity to mitigate the damage and protect the sanctity of our elections.”
