Washington, DC – Following yesterday’s unveiling of a six story mural by world-renowned artist and activist Shepard Fairey commemorating Parkland shooting victim Joaquin Oliver, People For the American Way President Svante Myrick released the following statement:

“We applaud Shepard Fairey’s ongoing commitment to art as a force of activism. This mural serves as a stark reminder of what we as a nation have lost to gun violence, and urges us to act boldly to prevent any more senseless deaths. We’re proud to have participated in the unveiling of this important work, and we look forward to many more profound, thought-provoking pieces from Shepard Fairey.”

The mural was created in partnership with Change the Ref, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, and the Downtown DC Business Improvement District. It is available for public viewing at 7th and H Street NW and will be a permanent addition to Washington DC’s art scene.
