Sandy Rios: John McCain Not A 'Hero'; 'Disgraceful' John Kerry Has 'Betrayed His Country Since His Youth'

American Family Association governmental affairs director Sandy Rios offered some support to Donald Trump on her radio program today, saying that Sen. John McCain is an example of how “we misuse the word ‘hero’ so carelessly in this culture” and “we need to rediscover what our view of heroism is.”

Rios said that it was “interesting” that Trump’s poll numbers went up in Iowa after he said McCain was “ not a war hero” because he was captured and became a prisoner of war in Vietnam.

“You know, getting shot down and captured — and you know John McCain made like 32 propaganda videos for the enemy,” she said. “There are Vietnam veterans who absolutely hate him, they don’t believe he’s a hero at all. So, I’m just saying.”

She went on to attack Secretary of State John Kerry, who, as a decorated veteran, spoke out against the Vietnam War and was later the target of a discredited smear campaign attacking his military service.

“If you don’t know, if you’re unfamiliar with John Kerry’s past because you’re too young to have heard the stories, please go online,” she said, “and you don’t have to read what other people say, watch him. He’s disgraceful, he has betrayed his country since his youth, and now he’s just doing more of it, it is just really astounding.”
