Arizona
Arizona is one of the most closely divided battleground states which could very well decide the fate of Donald Trump’s reelection bid, having gone for Joe Biden in 2020 by less than 0.5 percentage points. The stakes are also incredibly high in the Senate contest between Ruben Gallego, a proven progressive, Kari Lake, a Far Right election denier.

We’ll work to retain Democratic control of Maryland’s open seat and win close House races across the state.

Michigan
Michigan helped deliver the White House to Donald Trump in an upset in 2020–part of a crumbling “blue wall” in the upper Midwest. Joe Biden recaptured the state’s electoral votes in 2020, but the state is nowhere near a reliable bet in 2024. Furthermore, the retirement of Sen. Debbie Stabenow opens up a competitive seat, seeing Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D) vying against a likely Trump acolyte.

Ohio
Ohio has become largely uncompetitive for Democratic presidential candidates in recent cycles and has taken a sharp right turn at the state level as well. However, incumbent Sen. Sherrod Brown (D) has successfully weathered the rightward shift in his state with an unabashedly progressive, working families-oriented message. A loss for Brown would likely herald a Republican-controlled Senate next year, either denying Biden fair-minded judges or rubber-stamping Trump’s far right nominees for the federal courts–including a potential Supreme Court seat.

Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania is highly competitive this year, with both the presidential and senatorial contests on the line. Pennsylvania is one of the former “blue wall” states that flipped for Trump in 2016 but narrowly returned to the blue column in 2020. The success of Gov. Josh Shapiro and Democrats in the legislature is promising, but the combination of a fervent Trump base and a likely stronger Republican senatorial candidate in Dave McCormick suggests that progressive wins here in 2024 are far from a safe bet.

Texas
Texas has stubbornly remained in right-wing control in recent years, and will likely not be competitive in this year’s presidential election. However, incumbent Sen. Ted Cruz is up for reelection this year and only narrowly won his last race in 2018. The future of Texas–with its highly diverse and rapidly growing electorate–demands continued investment and organizing.

Virginia
Virginia voted decisively against Donald Trump in 2016 and 2020, but polling shows a closer race here than in previous years. Dissatisfaction with the incumbent president Joe Biden could scramble this race, and the election and enduring high approval ratings of Gov. Glenn Youngkin prove that the right wing is competitive in Virginia. The outcome of the 2024 election in the Commonwealth cannot be taken for granted.

Wisconsin
Wisconsin is another former “blue wall” state which is posting strong early polling numbers for Donald Trump–more so than most of the likely battleground states. In 2022, far right election denier and Trump loyalist Sen. Ron Johnson defeated a strong challenger in Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes, proving that the authoritarian, anti-democratic right remains a powerful force in the state. Defeating Donald Trump and the GOP’s candidate for the Senate will require a hard-fought effort.
