Washington D.C. – Following the announcement that Donald Trump has chosen Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) as his running mate on the Republican presidential ticket, People For the American Way President Svante Myrick released the following statement:
“Never has a politician debased himself more than J.D. Vance did, in flip-flopping from a Never-Trumper to fawning support of Donald Trump. He has embraced the harshest and most extreme MAGA policies, including election denial, racist conspiracy theories, and support of dictatorial power for the president. Vance favors the authoritarian Project 2025 agenda. And although he is a law school graduate, he has said Trump should defy the courts if they try to stop him from enacting portions of it. It sends a very unfortunate signal that Trump, while preaching the need for unity, has made such a divisive choice. We’re confident Americans will turn out in November to defeat a ticket so opposed to our ideals of equality, dignity, and freedom for all.”
