“This nomination is a disaster for democracy and the rule of law. Nominating Matt Gaetz to be attorney general confirms Donald Trump’s intention to corrupt the Justice Department and turn it into a weapon against his personal enemies. The Constitution gives senators the responsibility to act as a check and balance on abuses of power. If ever there was a time to exercise that responsibility, this is it. Senators must reject this unthinkable nominee."
