The American Family Association’s governmental affairs director, Sandy Rios, dedicated her radio program this morning to excoriating House Republicans for approving a compromise appropriations bill last night, thereby averting a government shutdown.
Rios said she felt “kicked in the gut” by the House leadership’s “shocking betrayal” and declared that House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell are “as big a liar as is Barack Obama.”
When a caller suggested that it was time to form a third party, Rios said she wasn’t prepared to endorse that but “a lot of people have been saying that” and that conservatives would somehow have to “find a way” to get Republicans in line.
“I don’t know if the republic can survive two more years, that’s the thing,” she said. “We could find candidates who can run against these congressmen who betrayed us because they have to run every two years, but by the time two years is up, I’m just not sure, I just am not sure what’s going to happen to the republic.”
Later in the program, in response to another caller, Rios said that the vote helped bring the conservative movement “dangerously close to civil disobedience.”
“We are getting dangerously close to civil disobedience, I believe. I’m not advocating it, don’t misunderstand me, but boy, we have to obey God rather than man, so we’ll see what the next chapter brings,” she said.
