What's at stake in Arizona
Arizona is one of the most closely divided battleground states, and it could very well decide the fate of Donald Trump’s reelection bid, having gone for Joe Biden in 2020 by less than 0.5 percentage points. The stakes are also incredibly high in the Senate contest between Ruben Gallego, a proven progressive, Kari Lake, a far-right election denier, and Kyrsten Sinema, the incumbent Independent.

The Far Right Landscape
The Arizona Republican Party has elected a former Trump campaign worker and election-fraud conspiracy theorist, Gina Swoboda, as its chair. Cheered on by MAGA operative Steve Bannon, Swoboda claims that God put her in position to challenge state election procedures designed to make voting easier.
Swoboda was backed by Trump and by Kari Lake, the far-right MAGA candidate who is running for the U.S. Senate this year. Her campaign chair is Christian nationalist activist Floyd Brown. Lake lost her 2022 race for governor, but has never accepted her loss, instead making Trump-like claims that the election was rigged against her.
Arizonans are represented in Congress and the state legislature by some of the most extreme far-right lawmakers, including Rep. Paul Gosar and state Sen. Wendy Rogers, who have both been vocal allies of antisemitic white nationalist Nick Fuentes.
Arizona is also home to Charlie Kirk, head of the increasingly Christian nationalist Turning Point USA youth organizing organization.
