Tony Perkins, the president of Family Research Council, shared a story on his radio show yesterday about a man who attempted to practice naked yoga inside a Massachusetts Planet Fitness facility and was arrested. Somehow Perkins managed to blame the incident on Planet Fitness’s policy of not discriminating against transgender people.
Perkins led into the story by recounting an incident in 2015 in which a Michigan Planet Fitness location terminated a woman’s gym membership after she refused the company’s request that she stop going around the gym telling people there was “a man” in the woman’s locker room.
“They terminated the membership of a woman who complained about a man in the woman’s locker room. Now, the biological man reportedly identified as a woman. This was not the first such incident with Planet Fitness—a similar situation occurred in Michigan. But Planet Fitness has defended its policy that pointedly puts women, potentially puts women, at risk saying they are, quote, a judgement free zone,” Perkins said.
Perkins went on to make a connection between the incident he mentioned and the fact that the Massachusetts practitioner of naked yoga cited Planet Fitness’s “judgement free zone” slogan to explain his behavior.
“Apparently Planet Fitness is not completely judgement free, only judgement free when it comes to political correctness,” Perkins said. “I’m telling you, at some point, all of that breaks down—it just does—unless you have, as we have historically seen, traditional values rooted in natural law and biblical truth, OK? Those have withstood the test of time, but this nonsense where you can define your own reality? Folks, it doesn’t work.”
