I was expecting the crowd at Donald Trump’s Saturday rally at Regent University, the Christian school founded by televangelist Pat Robertson, to be angry and bitter about the state of the race. But the crowd was actually pretty upbeat, apparently willing to embrace the GOP nominee’s focus on the few polls that show him winning rather than accepting many polling experts’ conclusion that the race is almost certainly out of his reach. Trump himself and his surrogate Rudy Giuliani were relatively reserved in their presentations. But the intense hostility toward Hillary Clinton was evident in chants of “lock her up” that broke out repeatedly and on display at the vendors’ tables:
