Earlier this week, Sen. Lindsey Graham discussed his potential presidential campaign on Boston Herald Radio, where the hosts asked him about Mike Huckabee’s assertion that people shouldn’t join the U.S. military until President Obama leaves office and is replaced by someone who shows less “hostility toward the Christian faith.”
“In all due respect to Mike, who I like a lot: Join your military,” Graham said. “You’re not serving Barack Obama, you’re serving your nation. I’m a military officer, I retire in a month or so, I’m not going to speak ill of the commander-in-chief in that regard. I will take issue with his policies, but military service is not about an individual, it’s about a cause greater than yourself. Join and hold your head up high.”
The hosts also asked Graham about Ben Carson’s remarks linking gay people with pedophiles and “bestiality supporters.” Graham responded that Carson was off-base, adding that if the Supreme Court strikes down marriage equality bans, Americans should “move forward as a society” since there is no way to ratify an amendment to the U.S. Constitution banning same-sex marriage.
He also subtly slighted Richard Mourdock, the Indiana Republican politician who said pregnancy from the result of rape was a “gift from God” during the 2012 election.
