Breitbart deputy political editor Amanda House said that she believed that students who staged walk-outs on Wednesday to protest gun violence should instead ask to ban “radical Islam,” claiming that “radical Islam has killed way more people” than gun violence.
On Thursday, House hosted Erich Pratt, executive director of Gun Owners of America, to discuss students who walked out of classrooms across the United States on Wednesday to demand Congress take action against gun violence in schools. Pratt and House derided the students participating in the protests and suggested the demonstration had nefarious intentions.
“It’s not just about arming teachers that want to be armed. It’s also, you know, why aren’t schools asking for their local police to do threat assessments? Why aren’t we checking IDs? Why aren’t we asking our retired military and police to volunteer? I mean, it just seems like this is not about guns,” House said.
She added, “If it is about weapons, why aren’t we banning trucks? Why aren’t we banning knives? Why aren’t we banning radical Islam? I mean, radical Islam has killed way more people.”
At the time of publication, 2,899 people have died in the U.S. in 2018 as a result of gun violence. The Anti-Defamation League reports that in the entirety of 2017, 34 people died in extremist-related murders in the United States. Just 26 percent of those murders were attributed to domestic Islamic extremism.
“You’re absolutely right. It’s not about the weapon because bad guys will always get their hands on instruments—whether it’s box cutters to kill thousands of people like on 9/11 or whether it’s truck keys,” Pratt said.
