A former Arkansas state legislator, Rapert launched the National Association of Christian Lawmakers in 2019. As its name suggested, the NACL is a Christian nationalist organization that seeks to “take authority” over every level of government and spread its worldview “across the nation.” Rapert himself is a hardline anti-choice and anti-LGBTQ activist, who has declared that Democrats are part of an “antichrist cult.” Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders appointed Rapert to the state library board, a platform he has used to call for defunding libraries that resist his censorship agenda.
