TV ads airing this week in Maine, Minnesota, New Hampshire, North Carolina and Oregon focus on the harmful impact of key senators' votes to confirm Bush nominees Samuel Alito and John Roberts to the U.S. Supreme Court and urges them to stop supporting bad judges.

"The votes to confirm Justices Roberts and Alito to the Supreme Court were among the most important these senators cast," said People For the American Way President Kathryn Kolbert. "The Supreme Court has an enormous impact on all Americans, and since the confirmation of these two men, the impact has largely been for the worse. Senators should stand with their own constituents instead of with President Bush."

The transcript of one ad reads:

The Supreme Court where our families are now in jeopardy — thanks to Susan Collins.

She could have stood with families who want clean water — with women who deserve equal pay for equal work — and with fishermen devastated by pollution from Exxon.

But Collins stood with George Bush and helped put his extreme nominees on our nation's highest court.

Tell Susan Collins to put Maine first and stop voting for judges who hurt our families.

Similar ads focus on the voting records of Senators Norm Coleman, John Sununu, Elizabeth Dole and Gordon Smith.
