WASHINGTON, D.C.—People For the American Way's Latinos Vote! program today launched a second 2020 ad, this one decrying the cruel and inhumane Republican immigration policies connected to the death of 7-year-old Jakelin Caal Maquin. The ad urges viewers to vote against Trump and the GOP in 2020 and to support Democratic candidates that will end these horrific policies. The ad will target Latino voters in in key 2020 states including Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, and Virginia.
“Jakelin died while in the hands of our government as she sought asylum only days after border patrol officials unleashed tear gas against child asylum seekers,” PFAW Political Director Lizet Ocampo said. “Trump’s immigration policies—enabled by his Republican allies in the House and Senate—get more caustic by the day, and it’s clear that the Department of Homeland Security’s inhumane practices will not stop until we vote the GOP out of office.”
Below are the ad scripts in English and Spanish.

PFAW’s Latinos Vote! program exposes and counters anti-immigrant, anti-Latino rhetoric and policies. Through electoral work, we hold groups, leaders and influencers accountable at the polls for the harm they do to immigrant and Latino communities. This latest ad buy seeks to build on the program’s robust 2018 digital ad campaigns.
