WASHINGTON, D.C.—People For the American Way (PFAW) today released the following statement from PFAW Executive Vice President Marge Baker following the Senate’s votes to confirm Ada Brown to be a federal judge in the Northern District of Texas; Steven Grimberg to be a federal judge in the Northern District of Georgia; and Stephanie Haines to be a federal judge in the Western District of Pennsylvania. PFAW opposed the confirmation of all three nominees.
"As of today's confirmation votes, Trump and McConnell have confirmed 150 judges to the federal bench--a group that can overwhelmingly be described as narrow-minded and elitist, favoring corporations and the powerful over the interests of all Americans. The judges confirmed today are indicative of the broader set: they form a Venn diagram of nominees who refuse to firmly shut the door against the return of legal racial apartheid and nominees who refuse to respect transgender people's identity in their courtrooms.”
People For the American Way is deeply concerned about the Trump Administration's efforts to install these narrow-minded elitists to lifetime seats on the federal bench. Our Vote the Courts 2020 project is designed to address this alarming trend by making the federal courts and federal judicial nominations a central issue in the upcoming elections.
