WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to last night’s primaries and more record turnout in several of the races, People For the American Way Executive Vice President for Policy and Program Marge Baker released the following statement:
“Last night’s voter turnout shows that alternative options to expand voting access work. In Florida, there was a surge in vote-by-mail totals because the alternative was available. In Arizona voters had curbside ballot drop-off and early voting was extremely important to the record turnout.
"During this time of crisis, we need to do everything possible to protect voters, voting rights and the integrity of elections with consideration for access and historic barriers to the ballot. For future primaries and the general election, we urge election officials to put alternative measures in place and adopt our critical policy recommendations, including mail-in ballots for all voters, online voter registration (OVR), expanded early voting, and polling site modifications. Every American deserves equitable access to secure, efficient and fair voting options that do not compromise our health and safety.”
