Washington, D.C.—People For the American Way Executive Vice President Marge Baker today released the following statement in response to Attorney General William Barr’s press conference regarding the Mueller report:
"Attorney General Barr—now serving as Trump's spinner-in-chief—repeated what he said in his four-page public relations document and raised more questions than he answered. Barr did confirm a troubling fact: that Trump's personal attorney saw the report well before Congress and the American people—who still have not seen it.
"Despite Barr's carefully chosen words, we do not know the extent of the Trump campaign's involvement in dissemination of hacked emails and other materials.
"We still do not know how Barr reached his conclusion about a supposed lack of corrupt intent on Trump's part, given that Trump was not interviewed as part of the investigation.
"We still do not know what is in Robert Mueller's report or the supporting materials--but we do know that it says that Trump was not exonerated on obstruction of justice.
"Responsibility now lies with Congress to obtain the full report and the supporting materials. House committees should play their constitutional role to investigate abuse of power, public corruption, and obstruction of justice."
