"Donald Trump's budget proposal speaks volumes about his priorities in this election year. It panders to the most hawkish and nativist among his base with huge expenditures for defense and a mostly-symbolic border wall, while ruthlessly cutting the Children's Health Insurance Program, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and other vital supports for the most vulnerable. It would slash budgets for agencies responsible for addressing the existential threat of climate change. It is a cruel, shortsighted distillation of the worst of Trump -- and fortunately, it will also be DOA in Congress, where we hope and expect more rational leadership will prevail."
