In response to the latest allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, People For the American Way Executive Vice President Marge Baker issued the following statement:

“Julie Swetnick’s allegations are deeply disturbing and deserve to be taken seriously. Kavanaugh’s alleged behavior needs to be subject to a thorough, independent investigation by the FBI. Without that kind of rigorous, objective fact finding, it’s wildly inappropriate to go forward with tomorrow’s hearing.

“Again and again throughout this process, Republicans have rushed and cut corners in order to minimize transparency and dismiss the very credible allegations of sexual assault and misconduct—as well as rampant dishonesty—by this nominee. Enough is enough. No one is entitled to a lifetime seat on the Supreme Court. Given the stream of credible allegations, to say nothing of the substantial evidence that Kavanaugh has misled the Senate on multiple occasions, it’s clear that this nomination should be withdrawn. The fact that Republicans are so blatantly mistreating and dismissing survivors of sexual assault in order to force a nominee onto our nation’s highest court is appalling.”
