Washington, D.C.— As the Senate returned to Washington this week and Republicans planned to propose a dramatically stripped-down COVID relief bill, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:

"The Senate needs to be focused full-time on providing the maximum relief possible in the midst of this pandemic, not playing political games with half-measures that will go nowhere.  We are facing multiple crises: thousands of Americans are dying every week from COVID, millions remain unemployed, and the vital services of the U.S. Postal Service are being disrupted by a political appointee who is about to be investigated for violating campaign finance laws.  It's time for Mitch McConnell and his Republicans to do the people's business and provide full funding for COVID relief and for the USPS as the House did in the Heroes Act months ago.  No other business -- including processing more judicial nominations, which is still on the calendar for this week -- should take precedence."
