WASHINGTON, D.C.–People For the American Way today issued the following statement from PFAW Executive Vice President Marge Baker in response to the House Judiciary Committee's hearing on the Mueller report.

"Republicans humiliated themselves today. From Rep. Matt Gaetz's bewildering questions about Medicare For All and Ouija boards, to Rep. Jim Jordan's apparent lack of awareness that John Dean's testimony about Nixon had been proven to be true, it's clear that today's GOP antics were performed for an audience of one: Trump.

"The Republican witness, John Malcolm, said the quiet part loud in today's hearing when he said that some laws do not apply to the president. This has clearly been the GOP position from the beginning of the Trump presidency: as long as he delivers tax cuts for wealthy people, guts regulations, and fills the courts with narrow-minded elitists, they will look the other way as Trump violates the law and corrupts the government.

"Republicans are wrong. Trump is not above the law, and House Democrats must continue to use every tool available to them to hold the president accountable."
