WASHINGTON, D.C.— Following today's party-line vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee to advance the nomination of Cory Wilson, a Donald Trump nominee to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, PFAW Executive Vice President for Policy and Program Marge Baker released the following statement:
"With twin crises facing this country, a pandemic and a national uprising against violent and racist policing, the Republican-led Senate chose to spend time today ignoring these emergencies and advancing the nomination of yet another far-right Trump judicial nominee. Cory Wilson is a partisan extremist who is fiercely opposed to the Affordable Care Act, even though it is needed now more than ever. He has a long record of supporting discriminatory voting restrictions in his home state of Mississippi. By advancing this nominee, Republicans demonstrate that their priorities are more than just misplaced -- they are abhorrent."
