This afternoon, hundreds of workers’ rights supporters will gather in front of the offices of the BGR Group lobbying firm to welcome Wisconsin’s Republican legislators to Washington. Wisconsin’s Republican senators and assembly members, who last week ignored widespread protests to push through a union-busting bill, will be at BGR Group to raise money from out-of-state corporate lobbyists.
People For the American Way, one of the sponsors of the rally, has encouraged its Washington-area members to attend.
“Wisconsin’s Republican legislators have shown that they work for the big corporations that paid for their campaigns, not the voters who elected them,” said Marge Baker, Executive Vice President of People For the American Way, “They went out of their way to appease their corporate funders by attacking the middle class. Now they’re frantically trying to raise corporate money to protect themselves from voters.
“There are millions of people around the country who are ready to stand up for the rights of workers. Elected officials need to know that they can’t trample on workers’ rights without facing a fight.”
