Today, People For the American Way (PFAW) launched a video campaign to combat anti-Muslim bigotry. Given the disturbing anti-Islam rhetoric from Republican presidential candidates and the rise of anti-Muslim hate crimes in the United States, PFAW calls on all Americans to take a pledge to speak out against Islamophobia whenever they hear it.
Playing off of the "see something, say something" slogan, the video released today states, "Don't just be against bigotry. Take a stand against it. No matter when, no matter where. If you see something, say something." The campaign also calls on all Americans to add their name to this important pledge: "I pledge that when I see anti-Muslim bigotry I’ll call it out and make clear that religious discrimination has never been the American Way."
"Attacks based on a person's faith should never be tolerated in America, no matter if it's coming from presidential candidates, coworkers, or friends," said People For the American Way President Michael Keegan. "Anti-Islam bigotry doesn't just fly in the face of fundamental American values, it leads to real violence against Muslim Americans and immigrants. Every one of us has a responsibility to speak up against bigotry, and our campaign calls on Americans to pledge to do just that."
