WASHINGTON— After Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell pulled the Graham-Cassidy-Heller-Johnson health care repeal bill from consideration, facing media reports that made it clear Trumpcare once again did not have enough votes to pass, People For the American Way Executive Vice President Marge Baker issued the following statement:

“The defeat of this bill is a victory for every single person who contacted their senator in opposition to the atrocious Republican health care repeal plan, and a victory for the nation as a whole. For weeks, the American people have shown up at town halls, written and called their senators, organized local events, and put their own bodies on the line in order to make their voices heard. This is a huge setback for President Trump and his extreme agenda and a testament to the power of organizing. While the fight on health care is far from over, this latest win is an example of what can happen when people come together and fight for their rights. PFAW will continue to stand with the majority of Americans who oppose attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act and persistently advocate for increased access to affordable health care.”

People For the American Way organized online petitions against the Republican health care plan and launched an email campaign urging its members to contact their Senators. PFAW also sponsored and supported rallies on Capitol Hill with other national groups in opposition to this bill.
