WASHINGTON, D.C.— Following today's Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing for Justin Walker, Donald Trump's nominee to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, PFAW Executive Vice President for Policy and Program Marge Baker released the following statement:
"There was absolutely no excuse for Senate Republicans to insist on holding this confirmation hearing today during a pandemic, while ignoring the many critically important tasks the Judiciary Committee should be focusing on to save people’s lives. There is also no excuse for considering Justin Walker for the second most powerful federal court in the United States. His efforts to respond to concerns about his anti-health-care agenda were totally inadequate. And, even more disturbingly, he refused to recuse himself from any future ACA-related cases. It is indefensible that the Senate was called back to spend hours of valuable time considering a hyper-partisan, anti-health care judicial nominee in the middle of this public health crisis. Senators should drop this confirmation process and turn immediately to addressing the pandemic."
