WASHINGTON, D.C.— In advance of tonight’s Democratic presidential primary debate in Las Vegas, PFAW President Michael Keegan released the following statement:
"This debate comes in the wake of Donald Trump’s most recent assault on the independence of judges, in which he attacked a federal district court judge, Amy Berman Jackson, in an effort to intimidate her before she sentences his crony Roger Stone. Trump has repeatedly shown us that his only criterion for appointing federal judges is that they be hard-core party loyalists who will do his bidding. The next president must move immediately to appoint fair-minded jurists who can restore balance to the federal bench and ensure its integrity. While we were very heartened by the substantial attention to the courts and judges during the last presidential primary debate, there is still plenty of ground to cover in this critical area. Voters want to hear how the next president will restore trust in our courts, and tonight’s primary debate is an ideal time for moderators to press them on this topic.”
