WASHINGTON, D.C.— In advance of Sunday's Democratic presidential primary debate, People For the American Way President Michael Keegan released the following statement:
"The coronavirus pandemic frames an important discussion around the role of government in protecting the health and safety of all of us, and Sunday's debate should absolutely focus on this issue. In the current crisis, we need a government that works for real people, not corporations. We also need to remember what a critical role courts and judges play in sustaining such a government, and to hear from candidates that they understand that role. The current administration has been giving us federal judges who are actively opposed to social safety net programs of the kind that are urgently needed in a pandemic, including access to affordable health care. That is deeply dangerous and candidates must offer an alternative vision when they speak Sunday night."
