WASHINGTON, D.C.—People For the American Way (PFAW) today released the following statement from PFAW President Michael Keegan in response to the continuing bigoted attacks from President Trump, members of Congress, and the right-wing media against U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn.:

“Rep. Omar is the target of racist, bigoted attacks from Donald Trump, some members of Congress, and right-wing media figures because she is a young, black, Muslim woman fighting for progressive values. Since arriving in Congress, she has been held to a double standard and relentlessly attacked by people who do not welcome her voice or what they perceive that her election signals for their own grip on power. We condemn these deceptive, fear-mongering attacks. We urge every member of Congress to speak out clearly against this campaign of hate directed at Omar.”

PFAW joined other progressive organizations in signing a public letter of solidarity with Omar, which can be found online and featured in today’s Politico.
