Washington, D.C.—In response to Attorney General William Barr’s refusal to appear before the House Judiciary Committee to answer questions about his handling of the Mueller report, People For the American Way Executive Vice President Marge Baker released the following statement:

“Barr’s failure to show up at today’s House Judiciary Committee shows that Trump is afraid of real scrutiny of his corrupt behavior. Congress must continue to push for the complete Mueller report---without redactions—and its supporting documents. The House Judiciary Committee must also hear from key witnesses like special counsel Robert Mueller and former White House counsel Don McGahn about the issues raised in the report and the administration’s transparent attempt to deceive the public about its contents. The administration is not above the law, but it is behaving as if it has something to hide, and Congress must get to the bottom of it. We commend Chairman Nadler for his principled fight to safeguard our democracy and to protect the public’s right to know.”
