WAshington, D.C.— In response to reports that Attorney General William Barr has been soliciting foreign governments' aid in investigating U.S. intelligence agencies' findings that Russia interfered in the 2016 election, with the apparent goal of discrediting those findings, PFAW President Michael Keegan released the following statement:
"The latest reports about the attorney general's personal involvement in 'investigating the investigators,' a cause promulgated by Donald Trump and his most fervid congressional allies, unfortunately looks for all the world like an attempt to discredit our intelligence community's findings that Russia interfered in the 2016 election. This is deeply concerning. Attorney General Barr continues to approach his office as if he were the president’s lawyer rather than the lawyer for the American people, which the attorney general should be. The latest developments are just one more indicator that his Justice Department has been completely co-opted to serve Donald Trump's political agenda."
