Today, President Obama announced much-needed executive actions to reduce gun violence in America through commonsense, widely supported measures. In response, People For the American Way President Michael B. Keegan stated:
“In the face of Republicans’ relentless opposition to commonsense gun safety measures, we applaud President Obama for taking action today to curb gun violence in America. Every year, more than 30,000 people die from gun violence; at this point it’s clear that continued inaction is simply not an option.
“This move should be applauded by all Americans. President Obama’s actions fall well within his executive power and focus on expanding background checks – something that 93% of Americans support. Standing with the American people and standing up to the NRA to reduce gun violence is the right thing for President Obama to do.”
