WASHINGTON, D.C.—In response to the introduction of H.R. 6, a bill to provide a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers and recipients of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED), People For the American Way (PFAW) released the following statement from PFAW Executive Vice President Marge Baker.
“Our nation’s Dreamers and recipients of TPS and DED strengthen our communities, and they deserve every chance to build stable lives in this country. While Trump is focused on tearing families apart at the southern border, this bill shows that House Democrats are focused on standing with immigrants as they build strong foundations for their families and communities without fear of deportation or harassment by administration officials.
“This bill answers the scapegoating and fearmongering from the Trump White House with hope for a better, more united future.”
PFAW Political Director Lizet Ocampo added:
“Democrats are fighting to protect immigrants and Latinos from Trump’s attacks by introducing H.R. 6. Republicans, who have done nothing to stop Trump’s mass deportation agenda, have another opportunity to determine what message they want to send Latino voters as we head into 2020.”
Ocampo runs PFAW’s Latinos Vote! program, which exposes and counters anti-immigrant, anti-Latino rhetoric and policies. Through electoral work and issue-based campaigns, Latinos Vote! holds groups, leaders and influencers accountable for the harm they do to immigrant and Latino communities. Learn more.
