WASHINGTON, D.C.—In response to news that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has completed his investigation and delivered his final report to Attorney General William Barr, People For the American Way Executive Vice President Marge Baker issued the following statement:
“Now that Robert Mueller has completed his investigation, it’s clear that Attorney General Barr must hand over all of his findings and documentation to Congress. To the greatest extent possible, Americans deserve to see the results of an investigation into the attempts to subvert our democracy. Our elected representatives have a constitutional obligation to review every single aspect of the Mueller investigation and to make sure that the public knows exactly what role the president and his allies played in Russia’s campaign to meddle in our elections.
“We already know that the Mueller investigation has uncovered an enormous amount of wrongdoing by individuals associated with the Trump campaign. It’s resulted in 199 criminal charges, 37 indictments or guilty pleas, and five prison sentences. But we also know that this isn’t the end of the story: it’s an investigation limited to criminality connected with the Russian interference in our elections. There are separate and important investigations being led by a number of House committees into other aspects of this Administration’s corruption—including potential cooperation with the Russians—as well as referrals to other U.S. Attorney offices, state cases and civil suits. All of these should continue to go forward.
“This isn’t complicated: Americans deserve to know what happened in 2016, and that means William Barr needs to hand the full report and findings over to Congress.”
