WASHINGTON, D.C.— In advance of tonight's Democratic presidential primary debate in Charleston, South Carolina, PFAW President Michael Keegan released the following statement:

“When candidates take the stage for the next Democratic presidential debate, they must address the damage to our federal courts being done by the Trump administration, especially in the wake of an alarming warning from a sitting Supreme Court justice about political favoritism in Court rulings. A few days ago, in a dissent against the Supreme Court’s 5-4 ruling to allow a Trump immigrant ‘wealth test' to take effect, Justice Sonia Sotomayor cited the ‘distressing pattern’ of bias Republican judicial appointees have in favor of Trump. She noted a series of 5-4 rulings that have ‘benefited one litigant over all others’: the Trump administration. This observation clarifies how Trump’s appointments of ultra-conservative judges and efforts to bend the justice system to his will have become an urgent crisis. The next president must share this sense of urgency and have a plan to restore fairness to our courts.”
