Washington, DC—Following today’s Senate vote to advance the nomination of Kristen Clarke for Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the Department of Justice, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:
“We applaud the Senate action today, to move the confirmation of Kristen Clarke as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights one step closer to completion. The confirmation of such an outstanding nominee as Kristen Clarke ought to be a slam-dunk, and it’s unfortunate that far-right politicians are prolonging the process. However, we’re confident that she will be confirmed in the coming weeks and the American people will have the kind of civil rights champion we deserve at the helm of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division."
