Washington D.C. – Ahead of tomorrow’s expected vote by the Senate Judiciary Committee on the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency (SCERT) Act, People For the American Way President Svante Myrick released the following statement:
“We applaud the Judiciary Committee for taking steps to focus on ethics reform at the Supreme Court. The recent revelations about ethics lapses and corrupt behavior on the part of some right-wing justices have been mind-boggling. The truth is that the Court, under the guidance of the Chief Justice, should take steps to address this itself. But since it won’t we are encouraged to see lawmakers’ efforts to step in. People For has advocated for years for an enforceable code of ethics for the Supreme Court, which is long overdue.”
