Washington, DC– Following today’s Senate vote on the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA), legislation to protect our reproductive freedom and access to abortion care by codifying Roe v. Wade, Executive Vice President of People For the American Way Marge Baker released the following statement:

“Today’s Senate vote on the Women’s Health Protection Act was an incredibly important step because it puts every senator on record: do they support reproductive freedom for all people in the United States, or do they stand against us? The Senators who voted against WHPA are out of step with the vast majority of the American people, who strongly support abortion rights and reproductive freedom. Access to abortion care is an essential part of people’s ability to make their own decisions about their families and their lives with dignity and self-determination. Voters now have critically important information about where their senators stand on privacy and reproductive freedom as we approach the midterms. Everyone who cares about the fundamental right of people to control their own bodies, including whether and when to give birth, must go to the polls this November and vote with that issue in mind. It’s not too late to save reproductive freedom.”
