Washington D.C. – Following the U.S. Supreme Court ruling today that the state of Colorado may not disqualify Donald Trump from appearing on its presidential primary ballot, People For the American Way President Svante Myrick released the following statement:

“This ruling by the Supreme Court keeps Trump on the ballot, but it in no way exonerates him for his role in attempting to overturn the 2020 election. Even the conservative justices on the Court didn’t write a single word that exonerates Trump for his participation in insurrection.  Instead, they focused on concocting dubious new legal arguments to make it much harder to enforce Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment. The bottom line is this: for the foreseeable future it will be up to voters to decide if an insurrectionist like Trump deserves their vote. We think the ultimate answer will be a resounding no.”
