Washington D.C. – Following Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry’s signing into law a bill requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in every public classroom in the state, People For the American Way President Svante Myrick released the following statement:

“This is Exhibit A of what Christian nationalists want to see happen to this country. Louisiana’s move to force public schools to display a state-mandated version of the Ten Commandments is blatantly unconstitutional. It’s also part of the Far Right’s master plan to eradicate the separation of church and state and use public institutions to impose particular religious beliefs on all of American society and culture writ large. We’re hopeful this law won’t stand up in court, but we also know its proponents nationwide won’t give up. And that’s why it’s so important to go to the polls in November and defeat the MAGA movement and its oppressive ideology.”
