Following Hans von Spakovsky’s withdrawal of his nomination to the Federal Election Commission, Tanya Clay House, Director of Public Policy at People For the American Way released the following statement:
“It’s clear that Hans von Spakovsky, who worked under former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, was not an appropriate choice to sit on the Federal Election Commission, or any commission charged with overseeing Americans’ voting rights and fair election practices. Now, we call on President Bush to put forward a candidate of unquestioned integrity and ability, a candidate who is recognized by Republicans, Democrats, and Independents as having served the interests of the people and will continue to do so on the FEC.
“This election year is far too important for the nation to proceed without a fair and functional FEC safeguarding the interests of the voters.”
