Washington, DC – People For the American Way is launching a five-figure radio ad buy as it gears up for a multi-platform campaign in Georgia, urging voters to support Stacey Abrams for governor and Sen. Raphael Warnock for Senate.
The first ad will start today, Tuesday, October 11, and run through Election Day in the Albany, Columbus, Macon, Augusta and Savannah markets.
The ad, “Call the Shots,” focuses on why Republicans Brian Kemp and Herschel Walker are the wrong choices for Black male voters in Georgia. Listen to the ad here.
“The governor’s race and Senate race in Georgia are two of the most critical in the nation this year,” said Ben Jealous, president of People For the American Way. “And we know Black male voters have the power to decide both of these elections. The Republicans in these races are MAGA extremists with agendas that would devastate Black communities, and their records show it. We’re confident that when Black men in Georgia hear the facts, they will come out for Stacey Abrams and Rev. Warnock: two great public servants who will move Georgia forward.”
“Black male voters are the key to elections in Georgia this fall,” said Svante Myrick, executive director of People For the American Way. “These voters will make all the difference in whether Georgians are represented and served by Stacey Abrams and Rev. Raphael Warnock, who will bring progress and opportunity to Georgia, or by far-right extremists who will undermine their rights and freedoms. Abrams and Warnock stand for jobs, health care, and reproductive rights. Their opponents don’t, and we will be working hard to spread the word.”
In addition to the initial radio ad campaign, People For’s Georgia effort will include social media, video explainers, organizing and press outreach.
“Call the Shots” script
:60 seconds
Male VO1: Hey man–they’re saying Black men are gonna call the shots this election.
Male VO2: Yeah? ‘Bout time!
Male VO1: Look–I know she’s not your favorite, but Brian Kemp? You gotta watch what he does, not just what he says.
Male VO2: Yeah, he seems like an ok guy.
Male VO1: Listen–do your kids have health care?
Male VO2: Nah–can’t afford it.
Male VO1: Did you know the feds would pay for Medicaid for our families, but he won’t let them? He’s playing politics–and we suffer.
Male VO2: That’s not right.
Male VO1: Get this–he blocked twice as many unemployment claims for Black people as for white people and he cut state contracts with Black businesses.
Male VO2: Mm-hmm… taking money out our pockets! And what’s all this with Herschel?
Male VO1: Dude! That brother’s not right… who asks his girlfriend to get an abortion one day and then says we should outlaw all abortion the next? Listen–things are getting real. We’ve gotta look out for us. I’m definitely voting, just not for those jokers.
