Washington D.C. – In honor of People For the American Way co-founder Norman Lear’s 101st birthday today, People For the American Way President Svante Myrick released the following statement:

“We are thrilled to celebrate the 101st birthday of our beloved founder and friend, Norman Lear. Norman has been a champion for truth, justice and the American Way his entire life – from his service in World War II, to his career producing hit shows that broadened our horizons and made us think, to his creation of People For the American Way to fight back against right-wing authoritarianism. He is as vital and engaged in our People For mission today as he has been for many years, and the inspiration of his life and work is a gift to us every day. Happy birthday, Norman, and many happy returns.”
