Washington, DC – As People For the American Way founder and Hollywood icon Norman Lear celebrates his 100th birthday today, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:
“It is with great love and joy that we wish our founder, Norman Lear, a very happy 100th birthday. Norman is as vibrant and committed to protecting our democracy today as he was when he founded People For more than 40 years ago. This man who fought for our country in World War II, came home to build a television career that deeply influenced our nation’s culture, and established a civil rights organization that has endured for decades, is the definition of a living legend. Happy birthday, Norman – thank you for inspiring us and for continuing to show the world what it means to truly live your values every day. We look forward to many more.”
