Washington D.C. – People For the American Way is proud to endorse Cook County Board Commissioner Brandon Johnson in the upcoming runoff election for Mayor of Chicago.
“Commissioner Brandon Johnson is the right choice for Mayor of Chicago,” said Svante Myrick, president of People For the American Way. “Brandon has shown his dedication to improving the lives of Chicagoans throughout his entire career as a teacher, union organizer and county commissioner. As mayor he will make educational equity and the creation of living- wage work top priorities. He understands the changes Chicago needs to make its streets safer, create opportunity in every neighborhood, and ensure every resident is valued in City Hall. We believe that all Chicago’s communities will rise with Brandon Johnson in the mayor’s office and we are very proud to endorse him in this election.”
“I’m excited to have the endorsement of People For the American Way,” said Commissioner Johnson. “Our values are aligned on numerous issues including the critical importance of inclusive education, economic justice and improving our approach to public safety. I’m grateful to People For and all the People For members in Chicago for their support, and as mayor I will work every day to uphold the values we share.”
The stakes of this election could not be higher and the choice could not be clearer. Brandon Johnson has a clear and bold vision for Chicago’s future. His runoff opponent, Paul Vallas, has embraced regressive ideology and public policy proposals that are dangerous for Chicago and the national discourse.
We will enthusiastically join and work alongside a coalition of local and national progressive leaders and organizations that proudly endorse Brandon Johnson for Mayor. We urge every voter to cast their ballot before April 4th.
