Washington D.C. – Following reports that Sidney Powell, a key player in the conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election, has entered a guilty plea in her Georgia election-interference case and will cooperate with prosecutors, People For the American Way President Svante Myrick released the following statement:
“Sidney Powell’s guilty plea and pledge to cooperate with prosecutors are positive developments; this shows that our justice system is working to hold accountable the people who tried to overturn our 2020 presidential election. But nobody should assume that the courts will be able to stop Donald Trump from running in – or even winning – the next election. The wheels of justice turn slowly and Trump’s campaign is steamrolling ahead. Progressives, independents and anybody who doesn’t want a second Trump term has to realize: now is the time to organize, fundraise and mobilize. Even with the positive news we are hearing today, it would be a mistake to assume the justice system – or anything other than massive voter mobilization – will stop Trump.”
