Washington, D.C. - Following the historic victory of Raphael Warnock in Georgia’s Senate runoffs, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:
"This is a great day for Georgia, for the New South, the U.S. Senate, and America. The people of Georgia have made a clear call for change in electing Rev. Raphael Warnock, the first Black Democratic U.S. Senator from the South. We know that Senator-elect Warnock will be a strong advocate working with the Biden-Harris administration to do the work the American people elected them to do in the arenas of health care, racial justice, climate change, the federal courts, and so much more. We are also encouraged by Jon Ossoff’s lead in his race, which would deliver a Democratically-controlled U.S. Senate enabling the new administration to achieve even higher goals. And we congratulate the people of Georgia, including the many young voters and voters of color who turned out and made this historic victory for Rev. Warnock possible. People For is proud to have played a role in reaching out to these voters, who represent the state’s future.”
