WASHINGTON, D.C.— Following the announcement that Brandon Scott has won the Democratic primary in the race for Mayor of Baltimore City, PFAW released the following statements:
“We are thrilled by Brandon Scott's victory in the Democratic primary in Baltimore's mayoral election. Our Next Up Victory Fund enthusiastically endorsed Brandon in this race and we were proud to support him, from endorsing him early to engaging our membership in phone banking, because of his deep commitment to improving the lives of city residents, especially young people. We've seen him in action since his first election. Baltimore voters supported Brandon because he is dedicated to the issues they care about, especially resources for public schools, ending gun violence and improving the lives of working families. We couldn't be more excited for Brandon and what this means for Baltimore's future," said PFAW President Michael Keegan.
"Brandon is the right person at the right time for our city. He has done an outstanding job serving Baltimore as president of the City Council. He is forward-looking and committed to serving all Baltimoreans. Most importantly, he will bring energy, vision and experience to the office of mayor in a way that is urgently needed right now, " said Ben Jealous, president-elect of PFAW and an outspoken personal supporter of Scott’s mayoral campaign.
Since 2017, PFAW’s Next Up Victory Fund has helped elect over 260 young progressives to state and local office. Endorsements include Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes, Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold, Wisconsin State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski, Florida Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner Nikki Fried, Saint Paul Mayor Melvin Carter, Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs, El Mirage Mayor Alexis Hermosillo, Troy City Council Member Theresa Brooks, Charlotte City Council Member Dimple Ajmera and Virginia Dels. Dan Helmer and Joshua Cole, whose victories helped flip the Virginia House of Delegates in 2019.
